Glossary Item Box

Overview

Maintain Portal Menu's allows the administrator to create a menu tree for the organization. The menu can then be deployed to any page within the portal.

Each item in the tree, whether it be a Menu type (that contains sub menu's) or an Item type (that launches an application), is associated with a permission. This allows an individual user's menu to contain only those items related to their specific permission structure.

Operation

Maintain Portal Menu's operates slightly differently from the other Administrator applications. When it first loads it automatically contains all items in the menu's root and any menu item with a type of Menu has a hyperlink on it's caption.

To maintain the table, click the edit button. The hyper links will disappear and you will be able to add, edit and delete items in the table. Click Ok to save the changes or Cancel to abandon them and the hyper links will reappear.

To edit the children of a Menu item, click it's hyper link. The form will reload and contain the selected item's children. Furthermore the Back button will appear in the toolbar, click the back button to redisplay the parent's menu level.

Type Description

Item Item types are used to load applications and cannot have children.
WebTools App WebTools App types are used to load applications and cannot have children, when clicked the menu will navigate the frame to display the form defined in the url.

R/Tab Check this box to display both the Form and Report tab when the URL is loaded. Leave it unchecked to hide both tabs and display only the application frame. This option is only applicable when the Type is WebTools App. It causes the Form and Report tabs to show. Check this option if this links to an Arena report.
Permission A menu item must be associated with a permission before it can appear in a user's menu. Refer Maintain Permission Names for more details.
Target This column determines where the application defined in the URL should appear.

Once the menu has been created it will be available in the Select Menu list of the Arena Menu web part.
